Waiting for Meteors

Waiting patiently for the Leonids (observation instructions here), the numbers are ramping up, SkippySky predicts cloud free viewing, I've set my camera up for photography (guides to taking meteor photos are here and here), and I'm looking forward to some nice meteors.

UPDATE: My report and links to other observations is here.

I am waiting too at prospect. Hope they ll entertain me tonight =)

You may well want to check Sydney Observatory's comments on the Leonid shower - Supposedly we were never going to see them, unless you happen to be lucky first thing in the morning.

hello. i am the guy living in prospect. Though there is little leonids. but i gurantee with another 10 of my mates, we saw a very huge meteor banging in the atmosphere lighting up and the tail was glowing blue and purple. It was spectacular!!

If that was around 4:18-4:20, I saw it too, it was magnificent!

That's basically what I said in my observing instructions. We were not going to get the peak, the question was how high the background rates would be, and if there was a bit of a "ramp" up in rates well before the peak.

The rates were pretty much around the low end of my predictions (about a meteor every 10 minutes rather than the one meteor every 5 minutes I though possible, though they did tend to come in bunches with a bit of a wait between).

Haven't heard from anyone in WA yet, that's were the highest likely hood of seeing some ramp up in the meteor numbers was.
